Getting around Katy
Katy is spread out. Plan around the road network, tolls, rush hour and Texas weather.
Driving the main corridors
I-10/Katy Freeway is the main route toward the Energy Corridor and central Houston. SH 99/Grand Parkway provides north–south access, while Westpark Tollway serves parts of south Katy.
Mason Road, Fry Road and FM 1463 carry substantial local traffic. Live conditions matter more than a fixed estimate.
Public transportation
Greater Katy is car-oriented and transit coverage varies by location. Regional commuter services may help with specific Houston trips, but they do not replace a car for most visitor itineraries.
Check current routes, stops, fares and eligibility directly with the relevant transit agency.
Airports
George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby Airport both serve the Houston region. Drive time from Katy varies widely by airport, time and weather.
Houston Executive Airport is closer but serves general aviation rather than normal commercial airline travel.
Parking and tolls
Most Katy destinations provide surface parking, but festivals and high-school events can fill nearby lots.
SH 99 and Westpark Tollway are tolled facilities. Confirm accepted payment methods and current rates before using them.
Walking and biking
Historic Downtown Katy and individual mixed-use centers are walkable at a local scale. Trails within parks and master-planned communities offer recreation, but they do not form a complete citywide transportation network.
Check whether community amenities are public or reserved for residents.
Heat, storms and flooding
Carry water and avoid long exposed trips during extreme heat. Thunderstorms can develop quickly, and street flooding can make familiar routes unsafe.
Never drive through high water. Follow official weather, emergency and road-closure guidance.
